Book Week
Our school had a great week celebrating books. On Wednesday, the Kinders were very excited to share their costumes with their Buddy Class. This created great discussion as the older students talked to me about what they had dressed up as in the past. Friday was also a fantastic Book Week Parade for children in Prep to Grade 6. Thanks to staff for coordinating these events and families for supporting your children to dress up.
Family Survey
I encourage families to take part in this survey. The results from both the Student and Family Surveys help to shape our School Improvement Plan. Our current Wellbeing Focus is because of past surveys.
Take the online survey by clicking this Link. or pasting it in your browser: https://ncv.microsoft.com/rFnrf74WLo
Australian Teacher Aide Appreciation Week
This week we celebrated our Teacher Assistants. They do valuable work in our school supporting students with their learning. They have many skills and are keen to participate in Professional Learning to improve their skills. Please take the time to thank our Teacher Assistants. I am sure they will appreciate it.
Principal Absence
Unfortunately, I have been away this past week. My father has been ill and has required my support. I would like to thank the Leadership Team and Administration Staff who have managed Spreyton Primary School in a very professional manner. I will return next week. I will have a lot of student birthdays to catch up on.

YELLOW DAY
As part of our school safety protocols, we practise Fire and Lock Down drills. These drills can create anxiety for children and adults. The purpose of a Fire Drill is fairly obvious; we need to exit an unsafe environment in an orderly manner and to ensure everyone is accounted for. A Lock Down, or what we call a Yellow Day is used to keep students and staff safe from something or someone in the school grounds by staying inside. There are also protocols for recess and lunch breaks.
This Tuesday we had a Yellow Day so students could practise staying quiet in the classroom. Teachers always follow up the drill to discuss how the class went and any other questions students may have about it.

BOOK WEEK PARADE - READ, GROW, INSPIRE

What a wonderful sea of colour we saw last Friday. There were witches and wizards, heroes and villains, sports stars, cartoon and digital characters and a lot of imagination. Thanks to all the families who found the time to celebrate Spreyton Primary Schools book week parade. The tradition of the Book Week Parade is one that stays with many of us as we grow up. I still remember my Peter Pan costume in grade two and my efforts as being Insy Winsy Spider with eight legs in grade four. Hopefully our children will have similar memories in the future. Keep on reading.

3/4 KLINEBERG CLASS VISIT
We’re lucky in our Spreyton school community that we have families doing lots of interesting things. A father of a 3/4 K student is going to Antarctica in October for a year to work as a diesel mechanic at Cassey Station. This is his second trip to Antarctica. Thank you to Erin and Andrea for sharing information about this adventure and bringing in some of dad’s specialist cold weather gear for students to look at. There were so many questions from our class about Antarctica and this amazing trip!

GRADE 5/6 SPORTS DAY
Every year the North West Primary Schools Sport Association runs a sports day for Grade 5/6 students. Students nominate an activity and then participate in a series of games throughout a whole day. It is a great opportunity to try something new, meet other students and participate in a sports roster. This year Spreyton participated in the Boys and Girls Football, Soccer, Basketball and Volleyball. It was a perfect day weatherwise, with some great sportsmanship on display.
Several students have been nominated to participate in a selection trial to pick a Devon area representative team. They will be vying for a spot in their respective teams against students from all the other Devonport area schools. If selected, they will compete against Burnie representative teams on Friday 25th August.
Boys Football: Jace A, Nathan K
Girls Football: Grace L
Hockey: Zara B, Maya R, Mitchell L, Calvin R
Netball: Asher W, Sienna Mac, Bobbi B
Boys Soccer: Bohdy Mc, Scott A, Harry L, Dylan L, Jasper M

After the selection trials the following students were selected;
Hockey: Zara B, Maya R, Mitchell L

Good luck to all at the Devon Vs Darwin competition.

DEVONPORT REGIONAL GALLERY EXHIBITION

The Devonport regional Gallery is hosting an exhibition for schools with the central theme of, The Future. It is the first time primary schools have participated in this exhibition. Several of our classes have drawn images to form part of our school display at the exhibition. There will be an invitation coming soon for families who may want to view the exhibition opening in mid-September.
I would like to see our school community more engaged with this project and a thought recently came to me – “how ‘bout parents creating a drawing for the display too!” So, here’s the challenge; by the end of next week send me an A4 picture/drawing/image of what you see in the future. At school we discussed, technology, animal and plant adaptation, jobs, environmental changes, living spaces, transport, science and medical breakthroughs. Please note that the images will be laminated so no collage type work. I need no more than 20 pictures for the display space. Hope to see some Picassos next week.
