FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Spreyton Students Out and About
Last week we had our Kinder classes visit Wilmot Primary School. Kinder students were excited when leaving and tired after the trip. They had a great time learning about all the farm animals.
The Grade 3-4 classes went to Camp Clayton and had a great day of fun, adventure and team building.
Sasha A
I was very pleased when Sasha arrived at my office to share her achievement. Sasha received a 1st place in the Northwest Zone Jumping Championships. This was hosted by the Leven Pony Club.
Fast Phonics
Fast Phonics is part of Reading Eggs. Most students in grades Prep to Grade 2 have access to this at school and at home. I was pleased to have a visit from Harrison and Mia this week. They had completed all the levels in Fast Phonics. Well done to you both.
Vandalism
Unfortunately we have had some vandalism. This occurred after school on Thursday, 2nd November. Ten poles were targeted and unfortunately the paint matching was not perfect. This is very disappointing because this is new paint, and our school is working very hard to improve the look and appeal of the school. The painting costs came out of the school budget and the repairs also come out of the school budget.
Twilight Fair
This is a major event on our school calendar. This will be held on Friday 15 March 2024. This means that most of the planning and organisation occurs in Term 4. Our next meeting is on 16 November in the staffroom at 6.00pm. Please consider coming along and help plan for a great Twilight Festival in 2024.

GRADE 6 TERM 4 IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Last week Grade Six students met with teachers to find out about upcoming transition and celebration events. Key dates shared with students and their families include;
Friday the 8th December;
- High school Transition Day – Reece High School and Latrobe High School (full day)
Monday the 18th December;
- Graduation Assembly 11.00am
- Graduation items handed out (for those students who placed orders at the end of Term 3)
- Grade 6 Celebration Dinner – 5.30pm – 8.00pm in the school Gym
Wednesday the 20th December;
- Whole School Picnic to Splash – full-day excursion
Thursday the 21st December;
- Last day for students
The major change from previous years has been the decision to hold a Grade 6 Celebration Dinner and social in place of a full-day Grade 6 celebration excursion. The Celebration Dinner will be catered by Bonne Bouche, and there is no additional cost to families for this event. Dress code for the evening is neat casual – the type of clothing students would wear when going out for a meal as a family. It is not a Leaver’s Dinner in the sense that some high schools and colleges celebrate, therefore formal wear is not appropriate. Acknowledging that this is a busy and often expensive time of year, we actively discourage families spending extra on special hair and make-up for the evening. Further specific information will be sent out to Grade 6 families in the coming weeks. If you have any questions in the meantime, please contact your child’s classroom teacher.

TERRAPIN PUPPET THEATRE

The Grade 3 to 5 classes had the opportunity to watch the internationally renowned Terrapin Theatre Company perform their show The Riddle of Washpool Gulch.
Far beyond the outskirts of the big city, near a tiny town that nearly everyone forgot, lay a dry creek bed of no special significance. Once upon a time it was called Washpool Gully.
But the world had moved on from insignificant things, and no one had time for dry creek beds. Except in Washpool Gully, something was stirring.
Shaken by the rumble of engines and the darkening of the sky, something long asleep had decided to wake up.
Combining old-fashioned storytelling with contemporary puppetry and miniature sets, The Riddle of Washpool Gully is a reimagined tale of Australian mythology about incredible creatures that might still live in the uncharted corners of our vast country.
The students were mesmerised by the mixture of puppetry, acting and storytelling. The 50-minute show went by in a flash and the questions asked by students at the end of the show demonstrated their genuine interest in the production. A snippet of the show can be seen on the Terrapin Puppet Theatre web site link below.
