FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Welcome Back
It was great to welcome students back this term. Many children were a bit sleepy the first few days as they adjusted to waking up earlier. We have had a very settled start to the term and I congratulate students for their attitude and behaviour.
Bright Sparks
We have electrical safety sessions each year for our students. It is good timing because as the weather cools, we switch on many devices that we haven’t used since last winter. I hope children were able to share what they learnt with families.
Excursions
Prep-1 Arrell and Warwick went to the Arboretum last week. The children were very excited as they boarded the bus. The weather was kind and the children had plenty to tell me when they returned. Some even saw a platypus. Thanks to staff and volunteers for the prior planning and helping on the day.
On Friday, Mr Henry will take some students to the Devonport Recreation Centre for a school Futsal competition. I attended one of Mr Henry’s planning meetings with students and I could tell that students were excited by this opportunity. Thanks to all involved in the planning for this opportunity for our students.
Next Friday, 17th May will be Grade 3/4 classes turn to visit the Arboretum. I hope the weather is fine and that they enjoy it as much as the P-1 classes.
School Cross Country
This is a reminder that this will be on Monday, May 13 and spectators are welcome. However, please stay home if you are unwell. Mr Henry has an article in our newsletter that will have further details about this event.
Painting
Over the school holidays we were able to continue with some more painting of the outside of school buildings. The toilet block was able to be painted and the result was very good. We are planning to get some more external painting done in Term 4, this is reliant on what we will have left in our budget.
Principal Long Service Leave
I will be absent from the school for the next three weeks. During my absence, Mr Gratton will be the Acting Principal.

2024 REMINDER PAYMENT OF LEVIES IS DUE
Levies are one of the many ways that families contribute to our school community. They support student learning by contributing towards the cost of essential items and services.
Levy payments are now due, we ask that you make payment as soon as possible please. Payment can be made online, over the phone or at the school office via EFTPOS or cash between 8.00am and 4.00pm on school days.
We understand some circumstances mean full payment of levies is not possible and Parents/Carers may choose to agree to pay levies by instalments. If you are in this situation I ask that you please contact me to discuss setting up a payment plan. This will enable us to set up an agreed instalment payment plan with regular weekly/fortnightly or monthly payments to suit your circumstances and ensure the levies are paid in full in an acceptable timeframe.

TWILIGHT FESTIVAL NEWS
Thank you so much to our Committee and all our supporters who made the Twilight Festival 2024 happen. Our final amount raised was $8,119.00.
Our small committee's central focus has always been around celebrating our heritage, bringing our community together and supporting local businesses and community groups.
Whilst we always aim to keep our event affordable for families, we do aim to cover our costs and make a small amount for our school. All money raised will be reinvested into school projects, please watch out for updates in the newsletter.
If you would like to join our positive and productive Twilight Festival Committee, we always welcome new members. Please make contact with the school office if you would like to come along.

AUTHOR VISIT FOR GRADES 3 - 6 STUDENTS
Author / illustrator Martin ‘Ed’ Chatterton visited our school today. He is a prolific artist who has written and illustrated many books. He has collaborated with many authors and finds this a very rewarding process and has produced and illustrated short films. During Covid he produced a series on YouTube called Blue Nose. He is now involved in illustrating for a major film.
Martin shared with the students his creative process for drawing and writing, creating several caricatures of students and teachers, (lucky Mr Barnett and Mrs McCaskie). He then told us a couple of stories that he had written, sharing how he created them by using everyday events and things that were familiar to him. He encouraged students not to be scared of the process but to have a go.
Our students demonstrated exceptional audience skills to our visitors. This was observed and commented on by Martin at the end of the show.

NEXT GENERATIONS IN SCHOOLS FOOTBALL PROGRAM
For the last two weeks we have been involved in the AFL Tasmania Football In Schools Program. It has given students an opportunity to play some cooperative games, learn some football skills, improve their fitness and coordination plus discover the pathways to playing or being involved in Australian Rules Football. During the 2 week program Payton, Febey and Jonty introduced students to a variety of games and skills. Students took home information about how to become involved in a variety of programs.
Auskick - Aimed at Kinder - Grade 2 students
Superkick - Aimed at Grade 3 - 6, which is footy without the tackling
Club Football - Under 12’s, which is age group football
Below are some pictures of students involved in the different activities.

NATIONAL WALK SAFELY TO SCHOOL DAY
Mrs Klineberg, Mrs Davidson, Mrs Stocks, Mr Butler, Mr Purton, Mr McClymont and Miss Bramich will be walking to school along Sheffield Main Rd via the Big Apple on Friday, 10th May from 8:00am. As this occurs before school hours, we are unable to take any duty of care of those students that choose to walk – they are just walking in the same direction to school. So, we strongly encourage Parents/Carers to walk the whole way with their children.

JUNIOR LANDCARE NEWS
This term we will be spending time harvesting and planting winter crops. Mr Pinner will be assisting us in building three more raised garden beds. The team will also be continuing to manage the outdoor classroom as it had been damaged by people outside school times. We will also investigate planting suitable vegetation in our garden beds around our school. Last term we applied for a $1000 Woolworths / Landcare grant and hopefully we will be successful in winning this. Fingers crossed.
