FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Term 3
A busy Term 3 has started off well, however, there is still some lingering winter illnesses impacting student attendance. Our attendance currently sits at 90.3% average attendance for the year so far. This compares favourably to the state average attendance.
Moving into this term we will have Science Week (Species Survival), Book Week (Reading is Magic), Devonport Eisteddfod, and many other exciting learning experiences during this term.
Good Feedback
At the beginning of the School Holidays there was a Grade 5/6 boys basketball team that represented Spreyton at the Primary School Basketball Tournament in Devonport on the weekend of 5th – 7th July.
We received positive feedback via our public email that noted
- Their encouragement of each other.
- Their respect for the referees, opposition teams, and team-mates.
- Their exemplary on court efforts resulted in the boys finishing the tournament as runners up.
Well done to all boys involved and you can be proud of this positive feedback.
I would also like to acknowledge the efforts of all the volunteers that help make these junior sports opportunities possible.
Every Day at School Counts
This is some older research now; however, it is still relevant today. The Queensland Education Department gathered all NAPLAN results for Grade 5 and cross-referenced this with their attendance figures. They discovered that for all four NAPLAN tests, better attendance equals a higher NAPLAN score. There are those that discount NAPLAN as a measure of student success. But that is not the point. The point is, the more often you turn up at school, the better you will do at school.

WE ARE 100 DAYS BRIGHTER
On Tuesday the 30th of July, Prep One Arrell celebrated the 100th day at school! In the morning, we wrote about what we would have or do when we get to 100 years old. After recess we had 100 themed S.T.E.M challenges. We worked together to try and complete them. We had to use 100 cards to try and build a tower, we had to line up 100 dominoes, we had to use 100 Lego blocks to build the number 100 and we had to use 1 piece of paper to make the longest paper chain.
Have a look at some photos of our 100th day.

NUTS / EGG "ALLERGY AWARE COMMUNITY"
This school community is an “Allergy Aware Community”. We have students in our school community who have severe life-threatening allergic reactions to nuts and eggs. We ask you to support us to keep our students safe from harm by adhering to our “Allergy Aware Community” arrangements and not providing recess snacks or lunch foods for your child which contain nuts or nut products and eggs or egg products. Foods labelled “May contain traces of nuts” are able to be brought to school.
GRADE 4/5 WATERCOLOURS ART - Inspired by Tedd Harrison
Grade 4/5BBD has been experimenting with using watercolours to paint landscapes and folk art. Our work was inspired by Ted Harrison and used as a calming technique after our busy lunch breaks.
Students have worked beautifully on their different art pieces. Please see our creative work displayed in the front foyer, at the office.
