FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Book Week Parade
Unfortunately, I missed the Book Week Parade due to attending a compulsory Principal Meeting. From the photos I was able to see a great deal of imagination and creativity in the costumes. I won’t miss the parade next year and I have 12 months to think about my costume.
Devonport Eisteddfod
A big thanks to all the volunteers and school staff that made the Eisteddfod possible including our staff that worked with students to prepare, organise and escort the students on the day.
On Monday was the turn of Grades 3-6 recorder and guitar participants. They performed in a range of combinations from large groups, trios, duos and solos.
On Tuesday morning we had two Grade 1-2 choirs perform. We had to have two Grade 1-2 choirs because of the popularity of choir in that grade group.
We also had our Grade 3-6 choir participate in the Tuesday afternoon session.
Mr Georgiades and Mrs McClymont will publish the results in the next newsletter. However, I do know we had some very good results because there were some excited students returning to school from the event.
Young Tassie Scientists
We had a visit from the Young Tassie Scientists last Wednesday. This was a continuation of Science Week where young Tasmanian Scientists share their area of work with Grade 5-6 students. Our students found out about
- Astrophysics
- Seismology in the Antarctic
- Biology
Every year the program has been running we always find out about different areas of Scientific Study.

BOOK WEEK - READING IS MAGIC
This year’s theme embodied the power of reading being able to take us away, to surprise us, to transform us, to open-up new ideas and views. It’s Magic!
The more we read, the more we learn. The more children are read to, encouraged to read and see reading as a positive pursuit the better they will become at reading.
Adult’s attitudes towards reading have a huge impact on kids’ attitudes. Reading is a learnt behaviour and is not easy for everyone, adults or children.
All children deserve the support for learning to read. It starts by them hearing and seeing positive modelling towards reading, being read to and having discussions about books read, being encouraged to read, and supporting school home reading (there is always time to hear a child read for a few minutes); it’s an investment for the future.
The reading journey begins at home, and both family and school can unlock the magic of it by working together.
Our wonderful book parade last week demonstrated the power of books to bring a community together both big and small. We had magnificent costumes paraded to magical musical curated by Mr Gratton. Thanks to all the families who supported the students this year.
