FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Wet Weather
Unfortunately, there has been a great deal of rain. This has made our school oval unusable. Every time it starts to dry up, we get some more rain. I know this has been frustrating for students, staff, and families. As soon as we get some fine days in a row the oval will start to dry up.
We are very lucky to be able to use the old netball courts for play during this time. I thank our students and staff for being flexible during this time.
Family/Teacher Meetings
Family/Teacher meetings will be commencing next week, and the booking system is now open through Schoolzine. These meetings are a great opportunity to discuss learning progress and look at work samples. There will be an opportunity to discuss class placements using a form provided at the meeting. A form will be sent home later to families that do not attend a Family/Teacher Meeting. This will be the last opportunity to have input to class placements as we begin our 2025 planning in Term 4.
Breakfast Club
This is a joint venture between our school and our School Association. Our Student Wellbeing data has shown that the number of students that eat breakfast each morning has been declining over time. There can be many different factors involved.
We are providing toast with Vegemite or jam three days a week, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday to any student that wants some. It has become very popular, and we are averaging five to six loaves each morning.
A big thank you for all those who have donated items or volunteered their time.
Staffing
Diane Davidson has needed to take leave at short notice. Thanks to Brittney French and Nikayla Wicks for stepping up to take this class.
Aleeca Stocks will be on Long Service leave during the last two weeks of term. Ryan Butler will take the class three days a week and the other two days are yet to be determined. Mr Butler cannot take the class for the whole week due to Human Resource regulations which are beyond our control.
Congratulations to Karen Wicks who has been successful in winning the School Business Manager role at Spreyton Primary on a permanent basis.

TEACHERS ASSISTANTS APPRECIATION WEEK
DEVONPORT EISTEDDFOD
This term our recorder, guitar and choir students have put in a lot of effort into preparing their Eisteddfod performances showing courage, resilience and growth. On Monday 26th August, our recorder and guitar groups waited nervously for their turn to perform on stage at the Paranaple Arts Centre. We had soloists, duets, trios and group ensembles participating. Despite the nerves, they all made it through their pieces playing their instruments very well.
On Tuesday, 27th our four choirs performed. Our 5/6 choirs sang Party In the USA, Shot Gun, Boulevard of Broken Dreams and Best Day of my Life. Our grade 1/2 choirs sang Do Re Me, My Gal’s a Corker, Back of a Crocodile and All the Little Raindrops.
Congratulations to all our performers for putting in their best effort and representing our school so well in the Eisteddfods. The Eisteddfod placement results are as follows:

BREAKFAST CLUB
We would like to extend our gratitude for the generous support and donations to our Breakfast Club.
The contributions from our families have made a significant impact on our program, helping us provide breakfast for our students three mornings a week. It is with the support of caring individuals and local businesses that we are able to create a positive and supportive environment for our children, ensuring they start their school day with a full stomach and a bright outlook.
A special thank you to Spreyton Bakery for your very generous donations. Your commitment to our community and the well-being of our students is truly appreciated.
To all the parents who have contributed time and resources your involvement has been instrumental in making our Breakfast Club a success. Your support enriches the lives of our students and fosters a spirit of kindness and generosity.
We have collection tub in the foyer area for any future donations.
Thank you once again for your invaluable support.
THE RED ROOM POETRY WORKSHOP
Recently four of our senior students participated in a poetry workshop hosted by The Red Room poetry, a leading organisation commissioning, creating, publishing and promoting poetry in meaningful ways. The theme this year was Threatened Species and for every poem submitted a tree will be planted to create a poem forest.
The students engaged in a live on-line workshop facilitated by Australian poet Kirli Saunders OAM. She provided guidance in using different poetic devices such as mental imagery through meditation, alliterations, similes, metaphors and onomatopoeias.
Reef by Zelda P
The Great Barrier Reef is like a firework of colour
The fish swimming by are brilliant spots of glitter
Waves shine like disco balls splashing by
The ocean sparkles blue
Bright like the sky
The reef’s colours light up the clouds
As birds fly by
Tasmanian Green Tree Frog by Lily Mae I
Skin like land and mud, grass, wood, the trees.
They are springs leaping through grass
Crickets down their throats, nom, nom, nom
Fearless frogs fending off foes with their ferocious call,
Quaaank, quack, quack, quaaank!
Off the ground, in the air, through the water
They are the Tasmanian Green Tree Frog
Coral Reef by Lucas C
Blue as the sky, why must they harm you why?
With coral grippy as my old sock
Older than time on the clock
‘swhush’, the water moves
‘swhush’, the world spins
With whipping waves,
Water not enough to weave healing.
I must weep for the reef.
Koala by Lilly H
Cute, cuddly, koalas always cuddling trees
As their fluffy fur hugs the tree they rest in
Peace, dozing off into a deep sleep
Sleeping and snoozing
Snoozing and sleeping
At once, an Australian koala sleeps in peace, zzzzzzz.
But then the cuddly koala feels hungry
She thinks about the delicious eucalyptus leaves
And jumps from tree to tree to get some
But she smells smoke
And all her eucalyptus leaves are burning
Oh no, all my food is being destroyed
how will I survive?
