The 2025 Family School Satisfaction Survey is here!
We want to hear from you, as input from families is very important to help us inform our school-planning and decision-making. Every year the Department for Education, Children and Young People conducts a School Satisfaction Survey to find out what your child(ren)'s school does well and where it can improve.
We would be grateful if you took part in our online survey about Spreyton Primary School.
The survey is open from Monday 25 August 2025 until Friday 19 September 2025 and should take about 5 minutes to complete.
Each family should nominate one person to fill in this survey for their child(ren).
Take the online survey by clicking this link, or pasting it in your browser:
Family School Satisfaction Survey 2025
The survey is carried out on a secure website and all responses are anonymous and confidential. All families in this school received the same survey link and no identifying information is collected. A summary of the survey results will be provided to schools. Responses from individuals or small groups will NOT be disclosed to any Department for Education, Children and Young People staff.
Please contact the school if you require any assistance. This information was emailed to you earlier in the week. Thank you for taking the time to fill in this survey.
School Association Thanks
I would like to pass on my sincere thanks to the School Association for the funding of the “Seen” documentary last week. They were willing to put on this screening to benefit our school community first and then open it up to the wider community. This was a very successful event.
National Science Week
As part of National Science Week, we had our Young Tassie Scientists return to speak to our Grade 5/6 classes in 2025. This is a great initiative to educate students on the variety of career pathways available in science. My sincere thanks to the visiting scientists.
Book Week
Thank you to all staff that got into the spirit to make the Book Week Parade a memorable one. There were a lot of Wally’s to find around the school. Thanks to families for supporting our parade with some fantastic costumes and visiting the parade. Some students told me they went to the Op Shop to complete their costumes. It is always great when we can upcycle and reuse. I went as Old MacDonald’s Farm, and I was able to use some of my farm clothes.

CELEBRATION OF LEARNING - 3/4 Davidson

Grade 3/4 Science Spotlight: Forces & Magnetism!
This term in Science, in 3/4 Davidson we have been diving into the exciting world of forces and magnetism! We've been exploring how things move, what causes motion, and how magnets can attract or repel objects without even touching them!
🔍 What We've Learned So Far:
Forces can be pushes, pulls, or twists—and they’re all around us!
Gravity is a force that pulls things down to Earth.
Friction slows things down when surfaces rub together.
Magnets have invisible fields that can attract certain materials like iron and steel.
🎉 Classroom Highlights:
Students experimented with magnets to discover which materials are magnetic.
We tested how different surfaces affect the speed of toy cars.
Our budding scientists made predictions, recorded observations, and shared their discoveries with classmates.
🧪 Try This at Home: Magnetic Treasure Hunt! Here’s a fun experiment you can do at home with your child:
Gather a magnet (a fridge magnet works great!) and a small box of mixed household items (paperclip, coin, rubber band, spoon, key, etc.).
Make predictions: Which items will the magnet attract?
Test each item and sort them into “magnetic” and “non-magnetic” groups.
Talk about it: What do the magnetic items have in common?
This simple activity helps reinforce what we are learning in class and encourages scientific thinking at home!

YOUNG TASSIE SCIENTISTS - 5/6 Visit
On Tuesday 19th August, Spreyton Primary Grade 5/6 classes welcomed three University of Tasmania students as part of the Young Tassie Scientists program. The visit was a hands-on, engaging experience that certainly sparked interest amongst the students.
Students rotated through interactive sessions with each scientist, learning about each of their fields of study. Rhiannon, a Chemist, explored the fascinating world of native plant species and their scents, with students quickly working out which natural scents they liked, and which were a bit ‘on-the-nose’. Our second scientist William, a structural engineer, shared how his team of researchers are working to protect the Gordon Dam from long-term damage. He conducted an experiment to demonstrate how damage can occur if the water released from the Dam isn’t strictly controlled. The third scientist, Josh, spoke to students about animal adaptations, comparing cave-dwelling creatures to those living on the surface. It even culminated in a role-playing game based on “Hungry, Hungry Hippos”.
Throughout the sessions, students asked thoughtful questions, explored scientific concepts, and gained a deeper understanding of how science impacts our world. The visit not only reinforced key ideas relating to our current Science focus about Animal Adaptations; it also may have helped inspire a new generation of Young Tassie Scientists.
We thank the Young Tassie Scientists for their time and enthusiasm, and we look forward to welcoming them back in the future!

BOOK WEEK - Book an Adventure 2025

Well done for another successful Book Week Parade. There was a plethora of characters old and new marching around the gym last Wednesday morning. Characters from recent publications like Dog Man to blasts from the past like Wally. There were fairies and princesses, Superheros and villains, digital characters and real-life characters. Four lucky participants received a yo-yo prize for their costume design creativity, and we announced our library, Book an Adventure, $20 book voucher competition winners, Oakah, Nova, Violet, Zelda, Milla, Hunter and Videlle.
After our parade we were extremely spoilt to have the opportunity to have one of our parents Alaynah Hensens read her newly published book to the school, The Whale and the Astronaut. It was a very touching book about love, support, conservation, taking-action, empathy and family. Thank you Alaynah for spending this time with us and sharing your wonderful story.
After the parade Wally and friends had lost some of their items. During recess students searched for them. These eagle eye students found them and returned them to the library for a lucky dip book prize, camera found by Carmen, parchment found by Blade, keys found by Eric, bone found by Olivia and binoculars found by Ochre.
Thanks to all our families that continue to support this Book focus day. A child’s reading journey never ends. As parents we hold the key by continuing to model and support kid’s reading progress. Your child’s teachers are focused on providing the tools and skills necessary to decode the mystery of how words work so they can become fluent and confident readers. By working as a team, school and families can ensure the ongoing growth of our chargers.

CELEBRATING OUR AMAZING TEACHERS ASSISTANTS 1-5 September 2025
Next week, from Monday 1st to Friday 5th September, we will be joining schools across Australia to celebrate Australian Teacher Assistants Appreciation Week. This special week is a perfect opportunity to recognise and thank our wonderful teacher assistants and support staff. The impact they have on our students and our school community cannot be overstated.
Every day, our teacher assistants bring patience, care, and commitment into classrooms and playgrounds. They walk alongside students, giving them confidence, encouragement, and the support they need to thrive. Their work often happens quietly and behind the scenes, but it is absolutely central to the success and well-being of our learners.
To our teacher assistants – thank you for the way you give of yourselves so generously. You make a difference in countless little moments: helping a child grasp a new skill, providing calm reassurance, or simply offering a smile that brightens someone’s day. Our school is richer, kinder, and stronger because of you.
We are so grateful for the dedication you show and the heart you bring to everything you do.

LITERACY SUPPORT - MTSS

Supporting Every Student’s Literacy Journey: Our Approach
At our school, we’re committed to making sure every child and young person receives the literacy
support they need—when they need it. That’s why we use a consistent, evidence-based
approach across all Department schools called the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS).
Here’s how MTSS works:
Tier 1 – For all students: Every child is taught to read using proven, evidence-based
teaching strategies.
Tier 2 – For some students: Those who need extra time and practice with specific literacy
skills work in smaller groups. Once they’ve mastered the skill, they return to Tier 1.
Tier 3 – For a few students: These learners receive one-on-one support to help them
learn specific literacy skills, alongside the learning in Tiers 1.
This system ensures that every student gets the right amount of help at the right time. Whether it’s extra practice or individual support, MTSS is our way of making sure no student is left behind in their literacy journey.
If you have any questions or would like to learn more about how your child’s learning is supported, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher.
RECYCLE REWARDS FOR BREAKFAST CLUB

Want to contribute to Breakfast Club but don’t have the time? Now there is a new way to help.
We have set up Breakfast Club to receive Recycle Rewards donations when you deposit your drink containers at your depot of choice. Just download the Recycle Rewards app on your smartphone, find Spreyton Primary Breakfast Club in the list of charities, then set us as your active payout. Note: this can be changed at any time. Then go to a depot and deposit your containers. Someone is there to help you if needed. Your donations are also helping Vinnies and the environment so it’s triple benefits for your effort!
We need to find ways to keep Breakfast Club sustainable moving forward and this is a cost-free way for parents and children to contribute to this much appreciated service. It’s also a great opportunity to get other family and community members involved. So spread the word to grandparents, relatives and neighbours.
The depot closest to us at Spreyton is at Wigmore Road, just off Kelcey Tier Road and the rear of Woolworths Carpark, Oldaker St Devonport.
Thanks in advance.
