2025 Families School Satisfaction Survey - Reminder
The 2025 School Satisfaction Survey is open!
Every year, the Department for Education, Children and Young People conducts a School Satisfaction Survey to find out what your child(ren)'s school does well and where it may improve. Your feedback is very important to help us inform our school improvement planning and decision-making.
If you have not had the opportunity to complete the survey about Spreyton Primary School yet, it is open until Friday, 19 September 2025 and should take about 5 minutes of your time.
Each family should nominate one person to fill in this survey for their child(ren).
To participate in the online survey please click on the School Satisfaction Survey link below.
The survey is carried out on a secure website, and all responses are anonymous and confidential.
All families in this school receive the same survey link, and no identifying information is collected. A summary of the survey results will be provided to schools. Responses from individuals or small groups will NOT be disclosed to any Department for Education, Children and Young People staff.
Please contact the school if you require any assistance.
Thank you for taking the time to fill in this survey.
SunSmart and Hats
The updated Spreyton Primary School SunSmart Policy states that students will commence wearing hats again from September 1st.
With all the wet weather, this had slipped my mind. Please start searching over the weekend for your child’s school hat. Children must only wear the approved school hats. No other hats are permitted.
Monday, September 15th, will be a reminder day. From Tuesday, September 16th, all students without a School Association-approved hat will be required to sit in the shade.
Family/Teacher Meetings
These will commence next week, and the booking system is now open through Schoolzine. These meetings are a great opportunity to discuss learning progress and look at work samples. There will be an opportunity to discuss class placements using a form provided at the meeting. A form will be sent home later to families that do not attend a Family/Teacher Meeting. This will be the last opportunity to have input on class placements as we begin our 2026 planning in Term 4.

FAMILY / TEACHER MEETINGS
The Schoolzine booking system for Family/Teacher meetings is now open. Bookings can be completed online by using the Schoolzine booking link below.
Please book as soon as possible to choose your preferred meeting time. Each meeting will run for 15 minutes. Because of the tight time frame of our Family/Teacher meetings, it is important that you arrive on time for your meeting, please.
These meetings are an important opportunity to discuss your child’s learning progress, view evidence of their learning, and talk about 2026 class placements.
If you need help making a booking, please take a look at the step-by-step instructions below.
If you are unable to access Schoolzine to book an appointment, please get in touch with the school office at 6421 2222.

CELEBRATION OF LEARNING - 5/6 Stocks

Grade 5/6 Science Spotlight: Animal Adaptations
This term in Science, Grade 5/6 Stocks have been exploring the fascinating world of animal adaptations. Students have been learning about the different types of adaptations—structural, behavioural, and physiological—and how these help animals survive and thrive in their natural habitats.
Working in co-operative learning groups, students were randomly allocated an animal to research in depth. Each group explored the unique physical features of their animal, investigating how these traits support survival in the wild. From the thick fur of polar bears to the powerful talons of the eagle, to the wide footpads of camels, students have uncovered the incredible ways animals have evolved to suit their natural environments.
To showcase their learning, each group designed a creative and informative poster highlighting key adaptations. This unit has not only deepened students’ understanding of biology but also strengthened their teamwork and presentation skills. I have been incredibly impressed by the enthusiasm and the thoughtful work they’ve produced! These posters are now proudly displayed in our classroom, and we look forward to sharing our learning with the wider school community at the next sharing assembly on the 19th of September.

FOYER DISPLAY - 3/4 Purton
In Grade 3/4 Purton we studied different places in Tasmania. In our groups we made a PowerPoint presentation sharing different things about the place our group looked at.
We hope you enjoy our work and visit these places some time.

LIFT UPDATE

Learner outcomes and wellbeing
Parents and carers are the child’s first educators. There is a substantial body of research which demonstrates that when families are engaged in their children’s learning at home, school and in the community:
- achievement outcomes for learners improve
- learner attendance improves
- learner engagement improves
- learner retention improves
- school completion rates increase
- behavioural issues decrease
- learner wellbeing improves.
The next round of Parent Teacher Interviews, being offered next week, provides an opportunity to check in with your child’s teacher about different aspects of their growth: socially, physically, and academically. Of course, you can catch up with your child’s teacher any time, but these are additional times outside teachers’ normal working hours. So please engage.

BREAKFAST CLUB - Join Us!

Breakfast Club is such a special part of our mornings – a chance for students to gather, have breakfast, and start the day feeling settled and ready to learn.
We’re so thankful for the ongoing generosity of our families. Simple donations of butter and bread go a long way in helping us keep Breakfast Club running smoothly.
In Term 4, we are looking for family volunteers. If you ever have a spare morning, we’d love for you to join the team of helpers who make this happen each day. It’s a relaxed and friendly way to connect with students, staff, and other parents while giving our kids the best start to their day.
If you’d like to contribute in any way – whether by donating or lending a hand – please let the office know. Your support truly makes a difference.

RECYCLE REWARDS FOR BREAKFAST CLUB

Want to contribute to Breakfast Club but don’t have the time? Now there is a new way to help.
We have set up Breakfast Club to receive Recycle Rewards donations when you deposit your drink containers at your depot of choice. Just download the Recycle Rewards app on your smartphone, find Spreyton Primary Breakfast Club in the list of charities, then set us as your active payout. Note: this can be changed at any time. Then go to a depot and deposit your containers. Someone is there to help you if needed. Your donations are also helping Vinnies and the environment, so it’s triple benefits for your effort!
We need to find ways to keep Breakfast Club sustainable moving forward, and this is a cost-free way for parents and children to contribute to this much-appreciated service. It’s also an excellent opportunity to get other family and community members involved. So spread the word to grandparents, relatives and neighbours.
The depot closest to us at Spreyton is at Wigmore Road, just off Kelcey Tier Road and the rear of Woolworths Carpark, Oldaker St, Devonport.
Thanks in advance.

SPREYTON PRIMARY SCHOOL ASSOCIATION - Seen

Thank you for joining us for Seen
The Spreyton Primary School Association would like to thank everyone who joined us for the recent screening of the powerful documentary Seen. We were delighted to welcome more than 150 people from our school community and beyond to this special event hosted at Reading Cinemas in Devonport.
Through candid interviews with Australian parents, the film explores the transformative power of personal healing for parents and also delves into the scientifically supported effects of such healing on parenting and its impact on child brain development.
The evening offered a unique opportunity to reflect on the important themes raised in the film and to continue the conversation with our guest speaker, Allison Davies. Allison, who has worked alongside parenting expert Maggie Dent and others featured in the documentary, generously shared her insights and expertise during the Q&A session, leaving us with valuable knowledge and practical takeaways.
We are so grateful for the support of our school community in making events like this possible. We would also like to thank the Mental Health Council of Tas. who funded the supper for the evening.
To continue the journey, there are a range of free and low-cost resources available online, including Seen: The parenting course, a 30-day reflection challenge and journal, and additional content and stories. The resources can be accessed online by clicking the link below.
