FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Tadpole Swimming
I had the privilege of attending many of the Tadpole Swimming lessons over the last two weeks. It was fantastic to see the level of swimming ability the students reached by the end of the program. Children who were hesitant at the start of the week were more confident in the water by the end of the program. This year we were able to give some Grade 3-4 students a chance to enhance their skills before the upcoming grade 3-4-5 Swimming and Water Safety Program.
Tadpole swimming is funded by the school because of the vital need to ensure children are safe and confident around water. The Grade 3, 4 & 5 Swimming Program is funded by the Department of Education. Thanks to all staff that supported Tadpole Swimming through supporting students at the pool or picking up extra playground duty. Thanks to both Mr Henry, Mr Gratton, and the Admin Team for their work in the background that allowed this vital program to happen. Thanks to the Swim Instructors that supported Mr Henry. We could not make this happen without the support of the Latrobe Pool.
Grade 5/6 Camp
I spoke with students when they returned from the camp. It sounded like they participated in many fun activities. However, they were all very tired. Thank you to the staff that planned and attended the camp.
School Colour Run
The afternoon of Thursday 28th of November is the time for our Colour Run. Prep/One Warwick are now top fundraising class. Mrs Warrick now has the special fundraising cape. We will check the progress on Friday to see if another class can take the cape. We also now have a special cape for our top student fundraiser. Jazzmyn Pearce has the honour of wearing this cape. We will also find out if Jazzmyn gets to keep the cape. My sincere thanks to children and families for your fundraising efforts.
School Crossing Guards
Our school is fortunate to have a dedicated crossing guard.
They play an important role in our community and work hard every day to keep students and families safe.
To help protect everyone, we’re sharing some Dos and Don’t around our school crossing area:
Dos | Don’t |
Always following the crossing guard’s instructions | Ignore a crossing guard’s instructions |
Slow down, stay alert and be ready to stop safely when asked | Block visibility near the crossing zone by parking too close |
Drive in a safe manner whenever you’re travelling through a school zone |
Thank you for helping to keep our school community safe.
Let’s all do our part by respecting our crossing guard and the road rules. Together, we can create a safer journey to and from school.
Every Day at School Counts
If you’re struggling to get your child to school, help is available. Please talk to us at school about your situation. We’ll support you, in whatever way we can.
Crossing the Line
Our schools should be respectful, positive and safe places – for students, teachers, school staff and the whole school community.
To achieve this, it’s important that all adults work together and communicate respectfully to get the best outcomes for the kids. This includes parents, carers and school staff.
We all experience everyday pressures and frustrations. It’s sometimes easy to forget this, and our actions, messages or furious typing can quickly lead to disrespect and distress.
If you have an issue to raise with a teacher or school staff member, remember to stop and think about how you communicate.
This is also the case in the online world. Remember there is a real person, just like you, on the other end of your post, comment or email.
Adult behaviour in and around school impacts everyone. Help us to eliminate disrespectful behaviour in our schools and create the best environment possible for our kids to learn.
Disrespect in our schools is crossing the line. Simple as that.

JUNIOR LANDCARE
We have finally spent all our Woolworths Grant funding for this year. With the grant we were able to reestablish the raised vegetable beds that were removed with the Terrapin demolition, as well as build a few new ones (thanks Mr Pinner). We have also updated some of our gardening tools, transferred soil to the new beds and continued to purchase and plant new seeds and seedlings.
Our winter crop of cabbage, spinach, radishes and silver beet have all gone and we have now got onions, tomatoes, corn, zucchini, cucumber, beans and potatoes growing. We have recently been harvesting broad beans and will soon have some garlic to take home.
The team has worked extremely hard over the year, some of the activities have included: Road Kill program, Coaster selling at fair, Outdoor classroom maintenance, classroom recycling audits, FOGO day, School Tree day plus helping with school grounds care and maintenance. Hopeful there will be a sunflower surprise early next year with seeds being planted in some garden beds.
If families would like to become involved in our Landcare team for next year, please let me know. I’m sure we have some green thumbs out there that could lend their knowledge to the students. Every little bit helps.

BOOK CLUB - Issue 7 and 8
Issue 7 is on the way – I know it has been a long wait but Scholastic assures me it has been sent and the delay is with the delivery service (they are switching to a different delivery company next year). Scholastic are very apologetic about the delay.
Issue 8 booklets have just been distributed and due to possible delays in delivery I have given only a week to put orders in – this will give us 3 weeks to receive the books. If you are ordering via LOOP there is an option to have your purchases delivered directly to your home.
All orders for issue 8 must be in by Thursday 28th November.
A reminder for those wishing to purchase book club items as Christmas presents to tick the “gift” box on your LOOP order or to write “Secret” on your cash order, I will give you a call when they arrive and organise a time for you to collect them personally.
